Well-known for its lovely interior and striking zen garden, Ryoan-ji Temple is one of Kyoto’s most famous. It used to be known as the temple of mandarin ducks which frolicked in a pond made in the 12th c. It was originally a country house of the Tokudaiji Clan and acquired as a Zen training temple in 1450 and registered as a World Heritage Site in 1994.
Ryoan-ji incense is protected by an exquisite decorative cylinder with tassels, and makes an excellent gift. It has been manufactured for the Temple from agarwood.
